“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
– Michael Jordan
You will agree with me that sometimes life can become tough on you with no way out; however, when it happens, you just have to sit back and remember that you're not alone.
We are here for one another
Presently, I’m physically and mentally tired. I’m taking on so many projects at once and I feel overwhelmed since I can’t get them done with the little time that I have.
I feel like someone drained out all my energy as I have to work seven days a week, I hardly ever get a well-deserved rest.
My 18-year-old son is another cause for worry as he has not been getting enough sleep and I also have to cater for him and the pandemic hasn't made things any easier.
I know my case may not be the worst in the world; after all, I'm very healthy, my bills get paid and I'm thankful for life.
However, life isn’t easy; perhaps you can relate to what I’m saying or maybe you’re in a place that is causing you much sorrow.
You may be struggling with mental health issues, or suffering from a lack of money to pay your bills since you have no job.
These and other reasons are what makes you sad and depressed.
When things like this happen to you, it can make you feel frustrated. However, I’ve been in the trenches in the past so I’ll love to show you my secret routine of how I get over my sorrows.
These are how I approach my everyday worries;
1- Stop multi-tasking yourself
In my life experience, I discovered that multitasking only made me feel busy with nothing being achieved. I’m very judgemental with how much I achieve every day which is why I have learned to say no to multitasking. As a parent working from home, you might feel the need to multitask. Imagine spending time with your child, watching Netflix, doing house chores and still cooking.
It can be overwhelming and you may end up getting the job done but it won't be done perfectly because you won't give it all your attention
2- The negative parts of multitasking
Whenever you multi-task, your attention moves from one issue to the next; thus allowing you to concentrate less on what you’re doing.
Multi-tasking isn’t good for productivity because it can ruin your creativity level so concentrate on one task at a time.
3- Try to enjoy the little things
Life challenges will always be there; you can’t run away from them, you can only embrace them and come out stronger.
Don’t allow your life worries to stop you from enjoying what life has to offer. When it's time to dance, dance to that song that makes you happy.
You can come out at night for a few minutes to appreciate nature by looking up at the beautiful stars and the moon and get lost in their awesomeness.
A fourth night ago, I came out with my son to stare at the beautiful wonders high up in the sky called the moon and stars. They looked like someone just painted them, it was a sight to behold.
As I stared at the beautiful moon and the stars in my son’s company, they helped me keep calm and restored my sanity.
For you, it may be something else.
Here’s the deal
Take out time from your busy life to restore your sanity by enjoying something that you would never have thought will make you happy.
For instance, it could be spending a few minutes with your pet, or having a me-time for yourself.
Just get yourself to hear the things you won’t normally hear when you’re stressed or the things you can’t see when you are in haste.
4- Stop worrying about your past and the future
I have learned not to worry about the things I have no control over like my past or the future. You are allowed to make mistakes so you can learn from them.
However, when you begin to spend more time thinking about your mistakes and regretting why you made them instead of picking yourself up and focusing on your strengths to ensure there is no repeat of the mistake, you won’t grow.
Sometimes you need to sit back and think of your overall journey; where you’re coming from and where you are at the moment.
Think of how your past mistakes have made you stronger, resourceful, disciplined, open-minded and determined to succeed.
No one knows what the future holds so you should not spend all your time thinking about an unknown future that you have no control over.
5- Practice acts of self-care
Self-care is the act of taking care of yourself so you can be physically, emotionally and mentally stable. Its benefits can be huge.
Here are some of my favorite acts of self-care;
-
Sit for a few minutes to meditate
-
Read books for pleasure
-
Apply essential oil on my hands and massaging it to get rid of tension
-
Call the love of my life just to hear their voice
-
Partake in a yoga class
6- Learn to appreciate yourself
It is easy to have goals and big dreams, but where the problem arises is when you can’t meet the goals you have set for yourself.
You begin to take it out on yourself.
Sometimes I’ll begin to think I’m not good enough; I’ll begin to get hard on myself for making the wrong decisions until I learned to appreciate myself and fail my way to success.
No matter how tough the journey gets, it gets easier when you stop filling up your mind with worries and regrets; just love yourself, take things easy and everything will be fine.
